THE LOST WORLD is a 1925 silent fantasy adventure film adapted by First National Pictures from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s 1923 novel of the same name. Professor Challenger leads an expedition of scientists and adventurers to a remote plateau deep in the Amazonian jungle to verify his claim that prehistoric dinosaurs still live there, introducing the concept of “dinosaurs on the loose” and becoming the real forefather of all prehistoric fantasies, including the Jurassic Park trilogy. This big budget adventure features pioneering stop motion special effects by Willis O’Brien, a forerunner of this work on the original King Kong. Starring Wallace Beery, Bessie Love, Lewis Stone, Jocko the Monkey, Mary the Chimpanzee, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
