HARANA, composed of 8 singers, each of whom is an accomplished soloist in his or her own right, is Philippine Opera Company’s official cultural arm. The word ‘Harana’ is the Philippine term for ‘Serenade,’ which is a traditional form of courtship in which a man woos a woman’s affections by singing underneath her window.

HARANA aims to showcase the evolution of Philippine music through song, movement and drama. The repertoire is composed of 6 suites, each theatrically presented with authenticity, originality and visual excitement. Each Harana suite is the product of thorough research, which is undertaken with a commitment to preserve indigenous Philippine music and its appropriate dance and folklore.

HARANA also aims to restructure and enhance the research findings in order to evolve repertoires suited to the demands of contemporary theater and to promote international good will through performances at home and abroad. The result is an absolute feast for the senses.
