‘Kiss today goodbye, the sweetness and the sorrow’; ‘God, I’m a dancer! A dancer dances’; ‘Everything is beautiful at the ballet!’ Those lyrics are from among the most successful, beloved, longest-running Broadway shows of the last 40 years. The intelligent, troubled, funny, gifted man who wrote them is the central character of A Class Act. Michael Bennett and Marvin Hamlisch are among the characters, but you won’t hear any songs from A Chorus Line. The entire score of this quasi-autobiographical musical is from Kleban’s unfinished, unproduced shows. You won’t forget his generous talent, wicked humor, and heartfelt passion.
