Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Presents

Mozart Serenade

  • This event has passed.

In the summer of 1776, wealthy Salzburg resident Sigmund Haffner asked his talented childhood friend to compose music for his sister’s wedding. Mozart was only too happy to oblige – particularly since Haffner insisted that he spare no expense. Befitting the lavish marriage festivities, Mozart created the celebratory Serenade that now bears the Haffner name.

‘Superlative young conductor’ Douglas Boyd (Chicago Tribune) spotlights the artistry of fellow Brits to open the evening: composer George Benjamin, who found inspiration in a Turner oil hanging in London’s Tate Gallery, and soloist Steven Isserlis, one of only two living cellists inducted into Gramophone’s Hall of Fame. Isserlis treats us to the sparkling Haydn Concerto. Join LACO for a musical toast to friendship and a happy-ever-after.
