Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Presents

Mendelssohn Italian

  • This event has passed.

A change is as good as a holiday. In 1830, Felix Mendelssohn traveled from his native Germany to spend a full year in Italy. He was enchanted by the art and the cities, and captured the vitality of the people in his lively ‘Italian’ Symphony upon his return home.

Jeffrey Kahane opens the concert with a world premiere from the ‘offbeat imagination’ (Twincities.com) of Ted Hearne, known for works that are multi-dimensional and deeply personal. Leonard Bernstein Award-winner Jonathan Biss performs the Mozart Concerto, sometimes referred to as the ‘Elvira Madigan’ because its second movement features prominently in the 1967 Swedish movie. Step out to a concert with LACO – this simple change in your routine could be just as revitalizing as a vacation!
Program includes:

Jeffrey Kahane, conductor
Jonathan Biss, piano

TED HEARNE – Sound Investment commission (world premiere)
MOZART – Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major
MENDELSSOHN – Symphony No. 4 in A major, ‘Italian’

Programs and artists subject to change.

7:00 PM – Pre-Concert Preludes – Ticket includes admission. Some Preludes feature LIVE performances of short chamber works. All provide interesting insights into the music and artists.
