Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Presents

Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3

  • This event has passed.

Facing a tight deadline? Don’t despair – you’re in good company! When the time finally came for Beethoven to conduct and perform his long-gestating Piano Concerto No, 3, he rushed to get parts ready for the orchestra and barely scratched out a vague solo part for himself. By all reports, his page-turner had a very rough night, but Beethoven sailed through beautifully. On-the-spot creativity paid off for Beethoven, just as it could for you!

Jeffrey Kahane conducts the Piano Concerto from the keyboard, emulating Beethoven at the premiere. The evening opens with delicate works by French Baroque composer Rameau. Paul Neubauer, youngest-ever musician to be appointed to a principal chair of the New York Philharmonic, performs a Concerto composed especially for him.
Program includes:

Jeffrey Kahane, conductor & piano
Paul Neubauer, viola
LACO debut

RAMEAU – Overture to Zaïs; Dances from Les Boréades & Dardanus
AARON JAY KERNIS – Viola Concerto
(Los Angeles premiere)
BEETHOVEN – Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor

Programs and artists subject to change.

7:00 PM – Pre-Concert Preludes – Ticket includes admission. Some Preludes feature LIVE performances of short chamber works. All provide interesting insights into the music and artists.
