Glendale Youth Orchestra Presents

Grieg

  • This event has passed.

The Glendale Youth Orchestra (GYO) is one of Los Angeles County’s lead youth orchestras. The GYO has played twice in recent years at the Walt Disney Concert Hall to great acclaim. In 2011, the GYO auditioned and was selected as a PREMIER LA Phil Youth Orchestra. GYO’s mission is based on the belief that our young people have a better chance of succeeding in their world if they appreciate and participate in its rich artistic and cultural traditions. GYO provides young musicians in grades 6-12 from all over L.A. County a unique opportunity to play classical music under the direction of Juilliard-trained conductor Brad Keimach. The GYO has been a Resident Company of the Alex Theatre for 19 years.

Sherry Tang, age 16, has studied piano since the age of four. She is a junior at Mark Keppel High School and plays both the piano and violin. She was selected as the 2010 From The Top’s Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award-winner and was awarded a scholarship; in addition, she was featured on national radio ‘From the Top’ (KUSC 91.5). She was also a recipient of the Young Talented Artist & Outstanding Music Performer in Southern California award. Sherry has won many awards in piano competitions, including the International Young Artist Piano Competition in Washington, D.C.; the L.A. International Liszt Competition; Glendale Piano Competition; MTAC Pasadena Branch Competition; and Southern California Junior Bach Festival. She was invited to perform with the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra and performed at the prestigious Carnegie Hall twice as a winner of the American Fine Arts Festival and the American Protege. She has played the violin for six years and joined the Glendale Youth Orchestra two years ago. Sherry volunteers to serve the community with her talent by giving performances to retirement homes every year since 2006.
