The comfort women issue of Japan is a serious human rights violation against women in the war period and, at the same time, an issue of universal conscience of humanity. The purpose of the play is to inform Koreans and citizens of the world of the comfort women’s true history and to create international empathy around the comfort women issue.

The play is based on the novel, Your mother was called s Korean P, which was the first novel to cover the comfort women issue. The script was written by the original author of the novel, Jung-Mo Yoon. By adding new stories of the protagonist’s son and granddaughter’s generation on top of the original story that closely describes the life of a woman whose human rights had been infringed by Japan, the author provides diverse perspectives on the comfort women issue through each character in different generations.

Accordingly, this play does not only reproduce and criticize Japan’s past atrocities, but also suggest that the comfort women issue, also known as the Japanese colonial sex slave issue is not just an overpassed history and it is a universal problem and a common task that is assigned to all of us to resolve.
