Alex Film Society Presents

The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946)

  • This event has passed.

The original THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE (1946). Evil and deceit lie just below the surface when Lana Turner and John Garfield collide, generating some serious heat as Frank, a drifter, and Cora, a sexy diner waitress who is married to a much older man, played by Cecil Kellaway. Cora has big plans for the diner which her husband owns and for Frank, too, but first she needs to make her unsuspecting husband disappear…with Frank’s help. Another hard-hitting, sultry drama from the pen of James M. Cain (Mildred Pierce). Directed by Tay Garnett and co-starring Hume Cronyn, Leon Ames, and Alan Reed. Look for lots of SoCal locations!

The program will be introduced by Alan K. Rode, who is well-known to those who frequent the annual Noir City film festival at the American Cinematheque. Mr. Rode is the author of Charles McGraw: Biography of a Film Noir Tough Guy, and a soon-to-be-published biography of Michael Curtiz. He is a director of the Film Noir Foundation, and producer of the annual Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival in Palm Springs, to be held this year May 14 – 17 at the Camelot Theatre.
